Having learned the location of cities last time, I asked if we could just stay in Ollantaytambo where the train drops us off instead of being picked up to go back to Cusco after the hike and then having to return to Ollantaytambo if we want to visit there later.

We arrived in the early evening and had no trouble finding a place to stay. With the busy day behind us, we had a quick dinner before heading to bed.

In the morning we explored the ruins that were on the edge of town. The history behind the ruins still make them so interesting when you know how they tie in, even after seeing Machu Picchu. The town isn’t too big, so after the ruins we headed back to Cusco. When we were just about back to Cusco we got caught in the craziest hail storm! We were pelted for about 20 minutes and the ground was covered in white – it was not a sight I expected to see here! It just goes to show how unpredictable the weather is in the mountains! When we finally got back to Cusco the sun was shining and it was a beautiful afternoon.

The first priority when we got back was to get laundry done! After we walked to the bus station to book a ticket for the next day to head to Huacachina for some more sand dunes! I’m going to be sad to finally say bye to Cusco after spending so much time here!
